Research group
Language, learning, innovation
The research within the research group 'Language, learning, innovation' currently focuses on three main research themes, which are also intertwined in certain studies.
A first research line focuses on language and language didactics, specifically in primary education. Within this research, topics as reading comprehension, reading motivation and reading promotion, writing instruction... are studied in-depth.
A second research line focuses on studying (different components of) self-regulating learning. Both the challenge of mapping ('measuring') self-regulating learning among pupils and students and promoting SRL in educational contexts are dealt with. This research focuses on compulsory education (particularly primary education) and on higher education as research contexts.
Finally, a third research line examines the implementation and evaluation of innovative teaching methods in education, with an emphasis on peer learning (e.g., peer and student tutoring, collaborative learning). Both effect studies as more process-oriented studies into the underlying dynamics and interactions during tutoring are conducted. This research line also focuses on primary and higher education as research contexts.
We are part of the Department of Educational Studies at Ghent University. Other research group are BELLON, Culture & Education, edum@st and Tecolab.
